Plants: Go on a Plant Walk

How many different plants can you find at Virgil Phillips Farm County Park?

Before you go, print a copy of some of the Native Plants that can be found on the Palouse.

Learn more about each plant using the USDA Plant Database.

Here are some questions you could ask yourself about plants that you find:

  •  Is the plant a tree, a shrub, a fern, a forb, or a grass?
  •  Where is the plant located - in the open fields, in the forested areas,  in the wetlands?
  •  What time of year did you find the plant - in the spring, the summer, the fall, year-round?
  •  Is the plant native to the Palouse Region?
  •  Can you find some plants, such as the fruit trees, that were planted on the farm by people?

Palouse Prairie Foundation and Idaho Native Plant Society: White Pine Chapter are two local groups who are interested in plants and sometimes lead plant walks at Phillips Farm Park.
